Smart Cities Miami — Panel

At the 8th annual Smart Cities Miami Conference — themed on the role of artificial intelligence in the design and management of smart cities — I served as a panelist on the opening panel, “Smarter Cities?”

Moderated by Nicholas Tsinoremas, founding director of UM's Frost Institute for Data Science and Computing, the panel examined how AI is reframing smart-city practice — from harnessing data analytics for efficiency and sustainability to navigating the legal and ethical questions that AI-driven urban solutions raise. Alongside co-panelists in bioethics, interactive media, and urban planning, I brought a design-and-architecture perspective, drawing on my research in AI-driven, performance-based design and robotic fabrication to consider how generative AI can advance more sustainable, resilient, and livable urban environments.

Presented by the University of Miami School of Architecture and the Frost Institute for Data Science and Computing, the conference also featured keynotes by Ali Malkawi (Harvard) and Neil Leach (FIU).
